Patients Council
Your Meeting, Your Say!!!

Welcome!

Held regularly at the Berrywood Hospital, Moray Lodge and Sandringham Unit in Northampton and the Welland Centre in Kettering, Patient's Councils are proving successful at drawing attention to inpatient's concerns about conditions on the wards.
They are also helpful in feeding back compliments to staff and suggestions for improvements to services or conditions, without drawing attention to any individual service-user as they are totally confidential.

Patients Council Information

The Councils (PC's) are led by patients and facilitated by one of our Advocates, our Volunteer Co-ordinator and a Volunteer Service-user.

They are very informal and if you are on one of the wards please feel free to come.

If you have difficulty in attending for any reason please speak to one of our Advocates or a member of staff for assistance.

The issues raised at the patients council meetings are fed back to the modern matrons and ward management to resolve any outstanding issues. Issues are also taken to the Patients Experience Group (PEG).

If you have a friend or relative who is currently an inpatient why not let them know?

For further details, contact Mike Hawkins or Andy Greaves on 01604 590354 or email Mike or Andy at: mikeuss@btconnect.com

Some of the issues discussed recently include:

"Special dietary food that is saved is being taken leaving less  favourable food to be eaten as a result."

A suggestion was made to use the exercise bike more often to promote healthy living.

Some members of the meeting asked why night medication was always administered at 10 pm.  "Could this be negotiated with individuals especially if you have already gone to bed and are sleeping and then have to be woken to take pills?"

"Individual rooms are locked between 2 and 3 pm daily and patients have to be in communal areas. Why cant rooms be accessed at all times?"

There is sometimes a problem with co-patients swearing which some people find offensive.

"Nurses on Sandpiper ward are the best and the occupational therapists are also very good!"

(So it is not always grumps and complaints!)

Mike is dealing with these issues with NHT senior staff.

The meetings are designed to be inclusive, welcoming, positive and productive for
service-users,
so why not join us?
